Air Carrier Access Act- Disability Travel Rights

The Air Carrier Access Act of 1986 (ACAA) is a United States law passed by Congress in 1986 and is found in the United States Code titled “Discrimination against handicapped individuals.”1 The ACAA prohibits commercial airlines from discriminating against passengers with disabilities during air travel. It requires air carriers to engage in consistent and nondiscriminatory treatment and to accommodate people with disabilities during air travel.

Trump Birthright Citizenship Executive Order 2025 Faces Supreme Court Challenge

July 2025 Update:
In the final opinion issued on June 27, 2025, the Supreme Court voted in favor of the Trump administration (six justices voted for and three against). The Court did not decide whether President Trump’s executive order on birthright citizenship violated the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment or the Nationality Act, meaning it did not look at the issue of citizenship status or whether people are in the country legally, regardless of where they are born. Instead, the Court looked at a procedural court issue and decided whether courts have the equitable authority to issue universal injunctions.

What is Plain Language?

Plain language is often misunderstood as something designed only for people with disabilities; but in reality, it benefits everyone. The International Plain Language Federation defines a document as plain language if “…its wording, structure, and design are so clear that the intended readers can easily find what they need, understand what they find, and use that information.” Using plain language means that you are communicating your ideas clearly for the reader to find everything they need to know.
