Legal Terms in the News: Court Order - a court order is something that the judge tells people to do before, during, or after a court case. Temporary Restraining Order- a temporary restraining order (TRO) is a short-term court order used to stop something from happening right away. A TRO is meant to protect someone until the court can decide on a longer-lasting order. (person holding their hand up holding a stop sign) 
Injunctions- preliminary injunctions: issued early in the case and is used to stop something from happening while the case is still being decided. 
Temporary Injunctions: Focuses on a specific situation and may last until the court has made a final decision. 
Permanent Injunctions: Issued when the court has made a final decision and orders someone to either stop an action permanently or continue doing something something. 
Stay- a stay in a court proceeding tells everyone involved to stop doing whatever they were doing, whether that is moving forward with a decision or carrying out an action, until the court figures out what is fair or necessary. Reinstatement- a reinstatement of the case is when a judge reopens a case that was dismissed and ask for it to be heard again.
